Why Organic Cotton Matters
Organic cotton avoids toxic chemicals and the 150 million trees turned into fabric each year. It recycles clean, without the residues of conventional cotton.

Most people don’t realise how toxic the global textile system is. Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically‑intensive crops on the planet; pesticides, fertilisers, defoliants, and residues that stay in the soil, the water, and the fibres themselves.

Those chemicals don’t disappear. They end up in ecosystems, in waterways, and eventually, against your skin.

And cotton isn’t even the biggest problem. Every year, around 150 million trees are turned into fabric like viscose, modal, rayon. Forests pulped into clothing. Ancient and endangered forests are literally worn as T‑shirts. It’s worse than people think. These forests are pulped into a dissolving slurry, chemically treated, and extruded into fibres that get marketed as “eco‑friendly” because they’re plant‑based. It’s greenwashing at scale.

Organic cotton breaks that cycle.

It’s grown without toxic chemicals, without synthetic fertilisers, and without the soil‑stripping practices that damage land for generations. It uses significantly less water, protects biodiversity, and keeps farmers and ecosystems out of harm’s way.

And when it comes to recycling?

Organic cotton recycles clean. No chemical residues. No mixed fibres. No toxins baked into the material. It can be remilled into new fabric without dragging the chemical load of conventional cotton along with it.

Conventional cotton can technically be recycled too, but the fibres often carry pesticide traces, dye residues, and chemical treatments that complicate the process and reduce quality. Organic cotton avoids that entire problem.

Organic cotton isn’t just “better for the planet.” It’s the only cotton that can move through a circular system without bringing the old world’s toxins with it.
